Square dance benefit to set them reeling in Rileyville

RILEYVILLE, PA — The Upper Delaware Nordic Ski Patrol will host a square dance at the Hickory Grange on October 21. A 6:00 p.m. potluck supper at the grange will be followed by the dance at 7:00 p.m. The grange is at Rileyville Corners, the junction of Route 191 and Route 371 north of Honesdale. The Uphill String Band will provide the music.

The purpose of the dance is to raise funds for equipment the patrol needs to serve the public in the vicinity of Bruce Lake Natural Area and Promised Land State Park. The group, part of the National Ski Patrol, provides search and rescue, outdoor emergency care, and educational services to the public year-round as Conservation Volunteers under an agreement with the Bureau of Forestry in the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

Members of the patrol also present the nationally known “Hug-a-Tree and Survive” program, designed for youth ages K through 6. It teaches young people how not to get lost, and what to do if they do become lost.
