Local history comes alive in Cochecton

COCHECTON, NY — Four local entrepreneurs were featured at the latest in the Cochecton Historical Society’s series “Coffee, Tea, and History,” held at the restored train station on October 8. Pictured at right, clockwise from upper left, they were Ralph Nearing, Art Peck, Ralph Calkins and Floyd Campfield. Topics covered ranged from the breeding habits of the eels caught and smoked by Campfield—they migrate to the Sargasso Sea to reproduce—to reminiscences of Depression days, when people were willing to turn their hand to any work in order to support their families. Coffee, tea, and light desserts were served.
