A jazzy debut for Tusten Theatres fall series
NARROWSBURG, NY The Delaware Valley Arts Alliance opens the Tusten Theatre fall series with For the Love of Music, a local jazz band that is playing for the benefit of the Narrowsburg Chamber of Commerce, the art program at Helion Hall/Gheez Academy and Delaware Valley Arts Alliance. The concert, which will also include an appearance by the vocal duo Rapture, will be held at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 14 at 8 p.m. at the Tusten Theatre, 210 Bridge Street.
For the Love of Music started out as a small combo in 2005. Additional musicians were attracted to this nucleus as the group appeared in local venues such as Sullivan County Community College and the Narrowsburg Inn. Bandleader Khairanis (Khai) Padu plays sax, bongos and congas. Other band members include Cecil Allen, guitar and bass; Dr. Zetla Elvi, tenor sax; Nicky Red, drums; Walfrii Koradis, keyboard, sax and guitar; Sironis Khahaifa, soprano and tenor sax; Elai Tubo, conga and bongos; and Jim Stickler, bass.
The concert will feature traditional jazz works by Horace Silver, Duke Ellington and Miles Davis including Song for My Father, Freddie the Freeloader, Tenor Madness and Satin Doll, as well as a few originals.
