NACL inaugurates monthly salons

HIGHLAND LAKE, NY —Thursday, October 12, will be the first of many monthly NACL “Salon Sessions.” Each session will be a night at the lounge, a cabaret and a place to gather to see friends while viewing performances by a variety of local artists. Salon Sessions will take place in the intimate and funky front lounge at NACL once a month on a Thursday. The public is invited to drop in, hang out and see what artists are developing in a causal and relaxed atmosphere. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. and the performers begin at 7:30 p.m. A $5 donation at the door is requested, with all proceeds going to the guest performers.

The first Salon Session on October 12 will feature local performer Skip Mendler in “Ballots, Bullets and Bagatelles” a collage of original and adapted stories, songs, poems and fables—some humorous, some not—about war, peace and politics. Mendler, who lives in Honesdale PA, has been a professional performer since his graduation from Harvard College in 1978. A former member of North Carolina’s TOUCH Mime Theatre, he has presented his unique blend of “Serious Silliness”—encompassing mime, clowning, storytelling, juggling and more—at schools, festivals, and other events throughout the eastern United States. He is also chairman of the Green Party Committee in Wayne County, PA, a co-founder of Waynepeace, and writes a bi-weekly column, “Peace and Justice Files” for The River Reporter.
