MARY Y. ANDERSON

SCOTTSDALE, AZ — Mary Y. Anderson died Monday, September 18, 2006. She was 91.

The daughter of Harry and Dorothy Harris, she was born on October 3, 1914 in Seattle, WA.

As a child, Anderson toured with her family in vaudeville in the United States and Canada as “The Famous Musical Osbournes.” Mary and husband Joseph Anderson raised their family in Jeffersonville, where she taught dance as well as in Liberty and Callicoon. In 1959, Anderson moved to Phoenix where she ventured into real estate, attended college and opened Anderson’s Dance School in South Phoenix, where she also belonged to the Soroptimist Club. She retired to Overgaard and continued in real estate, taught children to dance and fished.

She is survived by her children, Pat Smith of Scottsdale and Ted Anderson of Coronado, CA; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a grandson.

Family and friends will celebrate her life at her daughter’s home in Scottsdale.

Interment is at Resthaven Park Mortuary & Cemetery in Scottsdale.

RONALD CAMPAGNOLO

SCRANTON, PA — Ronald Campagnolo, alongtime area resident, died on Saturday, September 30, 2006 at Mercy Hospital in Scranton. He was 60.

The son of the late Felix and Viola Giorgi Campagnolo, he was born June 13, 1946 in New York City.

Campagnolo was a retired gentleman farmer. He served in the U.S. Army Intelligence during the Vietnam War.

A family statement said: “We all know what the first and last numbers mean, but it’s what we do with that dash in between that makes all the difference, and Ron has made a difference in many lives. In the end it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.”

He is survived by his wife, Ann Cirino Campagnolo, at home; his father-in-law Al Cirino of Milanville; and his sister-in-law Claire Cirino of Beach Lake.

BETTY J. FOSTER

CALLICOON, NY — Betty J. Foster, a resident of Jeffersonville, died on Wednesday, September 20, 2006 at the Grover Hermann Division of CRMC in Callicoon. She was 77.

The daughter of the late Robert and Emma Bealfour, she was born on July 16, 1929 in Sloatsburg.

Foster was a retired lab tech with Geigy Pharmaceuticals and a former member of the Eagle Valley Fire Department and the Tuxedo American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by her daughter, Pat Weyant and her husband Ron of Neversink; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Montanye; and her husband, Hubert Foster; one daughter, Judy Gibson; and three brothers, Robert, Joseph and William.

Services are private and the family asks that you remember Betty in your prayers.


PAUL J. FOSTER

MILFORD, PA — Paul J. Foster died on Monday, September 25, 2006 at home. He was 60.

The son of the late George and Helen Comfort Foster, he was born on June 15, 1946 in Callicoon, NY.

Foster was a subcontractor and heavy equipment operator and a lifelong area resident. He was a member of Elks Lodge number 645 of Port Jervis, NY.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Lisa” Cox Foster at home; two sons, Paul Foster of Barryville, and Robert Foster and his wife Rosa of Barryville, NY; two brothers, George Foster and his wife Tracy of Greely, and William Foster and his wife Paula of Boca Raton, FL; one sister, Laraine Kinne of Yulan, NY; two granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sister, Carol Barthelmes.

Services were held on Friday, September 29, 2006 at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home in Port Jervis with the Reverend Nancy Vonderhorst officiating.

Interment will be at the Van Keuren cemetery in Swan Lake, NY.

WILLIAM E. FROELICH

KENOZA LAKE, NY — William E. Froelich died on Monday, September 26 at home. He was 78.

The son of William and Gerturde Hein Froelich, he was born on March 10, 1928 in Buffalo.

Froelich was a retired occupational therapist from Sullivan County BOCES. He was a member of the Kenoza Lake Fire Department and the Sullivan County Bee Keepers Association.

He is survived by his wife, Alice M. Boberg Froelich at home; five daughters, Lisa Rose and her husband George of Kenoza Lake, Peggy Ariosta of Warren, NJ, Sharon Bellomo and her husband Tony of Sacramento, CA, Amy Erlwein and her husband David of Jeffersonville, and Mary Froelich of Kenoza Lake; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was predeceased by his sister, Jean Hager.

MICHAEL RICHARD JACKOWSKI

YOUNGSVILLE, NY — Michael Richard Jackowski died on Thursday, September 28, 2006, at home. He was 59.

The son of Josephine Jackowski and the late Edward Jackowski, he was born on June 1, 1947 in Poland.

Jackowski was a retired engineer and 26-year resident of the area.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Jackowski at home; three daughters, Annette Rasmussen and her husband Chris of Youngsville, Michelle Pepe and her husband Joe of Youngsville, and Yvonne Jackowski at home; two grandchildren; his mother, Josephine Jackowski of Stamford, CT; two sisters, Alina Formus and her husband Lester of Ridgefield, CT and Anna Dias and husband Armondo of Milford, CT; his mother-in-law Natalie Paszek of Jeffersonville; brother-in-law Stefan Swendrak and wife Diane of Marlboro, NJ; sister-in-law Eva Morawski of Poland; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held Monday, October 2, 2006 at St. George’s Church in Jeffersonville.

Interment is at Calvary Cemetery in Youngsville.

BETTY M. KILEY

BARRYVILLE, NY — Betty M. Kiley, a longtime area resident, died on Monday, September 25, 2006 at home. She was 85.

The daughter of the late Otto and Marion McIntyre Smolka, she was born on February 10, 1921 in Staten Island.

Kiley was a homemaker, a member of the St. Marks Quilting Club and attended the St. Marks Lutheran Church in Lackawaxen, PA. She lost her mother at a young age and raised three younger brothers. After raising her own four children, she helped take care of her grandchildren.

She is survived by one son, Ronald Kiley of Tucson, AZ; two daughters, Marion Wilcken of Staten Island, Bette Fetter and special son-in-law Richard of Whitesboro; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; her brother, Bruce Smolka and his wife Claire of Staten Island; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Kiley; her daughter, Ellyn Smith; two brothers, Ray Smolka and Donald Smolka; and one grandson.

Services will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2006 at the Harmon Funeral Home in Staten Island.

Interment is at Ocean View Cemetery in Staten Island.

ELSIE BONHARD LECHNER

CARBONDALE, PA — Elsie Bonhard Lechner, a resident of Narrowsburg, NY, died Monday, September 25, 2006 at Osprey Ridge Healthcare Center in Carbondale, PA. She was 92.

The daughter of the late Edward and Lena Rutledge Koberlein, she was born on August 9, 1914 in Cochecton Center, NY.

Lechner was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Narrowsburg, a member of Tammany Chapter 492 OES, Callicoon, NY a member of the Lava Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and a former member of the Tusten Volunteer Ambulance Corps in Narrowsburg.

She is survived by three daughters, Jean Hendrikcson of Blacksburg, VA, Dorothy McCormack of Narrowsburg, and Carolyn Vannatta of Leonardtown, MD; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by husband Lester Bonhard; husband Robert Lechner; two sisters, Margaret Coyne and Grace Nober; and five brothers, Ivan Koberlein, Louie Koberlein, Art Koberlein, Sam Koberlein and Ernie Koberlein.

Services were held on September 29, 2006 at the Rasmussen Funeral Home in Narrowsburg with the Reverend Donald Beck officiating.

Interment is at Glen Cove Cemetery in Narrowsburg.

ANNE MAGES

HONESDALE, PA — Anne Mages, a resident of Jeffersonville, NY, died on Thursday, September 28, 2006 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale. She was 92.

The daughter of Thomas and Beatrice McDermott Reilly, she was born July 2, 1914 in Mud Butte, SD.

Mages was a retired operator of the Forest Glen Hotel in Jeffersonville, a charter member of the Jeffersonville Volunteer Ambulance Corps and the H. Russell Kenyon Post #5808 Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, past district president of Ladies Auxiliary Department of New York. She was a member of St. George’s Church of Jeffersonville and its Altar Rosary Society. She was a director of the Sullivan County Health Association and a secretary for Max Yasgur Farms in Bethel for 15 years, spanning the Woodstock Festival of 1969.

She is survived by cousins and many dear friends and neighbors.

She was predeceased by her husband, John Mages; one daughter, Mary; and three brothers, Jack, Thomas and Myles.

Services were held Saturday, September 30, 2006 at St. George’s Church in Jeffersonville. Interment is at Calvary Cemetery in Youngsville.

STANLEY OSET

JACKSONVILLE, FL — Stanley Oset, a former resident of Yulan, NY, died Thursday, September 21, 2006 at the Tandem Nursing Home in Orange Park.

Oset was a decorated Navy pilot of a B-24 during World War II, serving in the Pacific. He was a past chief of the Yulan Fire Department, and he owned the Eldred Dairy.

He is survived by his son, Walter of Jacksonville; two brothers, Joseph of Niagara Falls, NY, and Chester of Yulan.

He was predeceased by his wife Stella; his son James; two brothers, Walter and Henry; and his mother, Mary Bornstein.

A memorial service was held at the Tandem Nursing Home in Orange Park.


JOAN W. REDINGTON

HARRIS, NY — Joan W. Redington, a resident of Jeffersonville, died Friday, September 29, 2006 at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 78.

The daughter of Walter C. and Edna Gorr Weiss, she was born on January 18, 1928 in North Branch.

Redington owned George’s Colonial Inn and Lanes with her late husband, George B. Redington. She was a member of St. George’s Church in Jeffersonville, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. She was also a member of Jeffersonville Senior Citizens and the Happy Footers Square Dance Club.

She is survived by her daughters, Linda R. Duttweiler and her husband Michael of Ithaca, Joan E. Redington and her companion Thomas Skiff Jr. of White Sulpher Springs, and Janet Redington Hauser and her companion Greg Cogar of Callicoon Center; one son, George C. Redington of Escondido, CA; six grandchildren; a sister, Faye Mahoney and her husband Thomas of Valhalla; a brother-in-law, John M. Redington and his wife Marge of Peoria, IL; many cousins; and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, George B. Redington.

Services were held on Tuesday, October 3, 2006 at St. George’s Church in Jeffersonville with the Father Leo Perera officiating.

Interment is at St. Peters Cemetery in Liberty.

The son of Benjamin Santiago and Tammy Meland, he was born on September 21, 2006 in Valhalla.

He is survived by his parents, Benjamin Santiago of Otisville and Tammy Meland of Greenville; three sisters, Claudia, Deja and Kayla; maternal grandparents, Viola and Johannes Meland of Greenville and Joseph Teller of Pond Eddy; and paternal grandmother, Marcia Guardia of Stormville.

He was predeceased by his grandfather, Jose A. Santiago; and a sister, Faith.

Services were held on Tuesday, September 26, 2006 at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Middletown.


RENEE MERCURIO SCHIMMEL

BAYSIDE, NY — Renee Mercurio Schimmel, a former resident of Barryville, died on Friday, September 22, 2006. She was 56.

The daughter of Nicholas and Mary (Maxwell) Sanabria, she was born on July 14, 1950.

Schimmel was the owner and operator of The Bridge Bar and Restaurant in Barryville. She enjoyed cooking.

She is survived by her husband, David Schimmel; two sons, Joseph and Matthew Mercurio; her former husband, Joseph Mercurio; one granddaughter; and step-children, Jacqueline Stephanie, Alexandra, Zachary and Samantha.

Services were on Sunday, September 24, 2006 at the Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home in Dobbs Ferry.

JOHN H. SCHMITT

PORT JERVIS, NY — John H. Schmitt, a resident of Sparrowbush, died on Friday, September 22, 2006 at Bon Secours Community Hospital. He was 79.

The son of the late Frederick H. and Anna M. Brown Schmitt, he was born on February 7, 1927 in Poughkeepsie.

Schmitt was a security guard at Orange County Community College in Middletown and Kolmar Labs in Port Jervis. He was an army veteran of World War II and the Korean War, and was a member of the Roosa-Fleming VFW Post Number 161 and the James C. Blitz American Legion post number 685, both of Port Jervis.

He is survived by his wife, Alvina C. Thomas Schmitt at home; a brother, Frederick H. Schnitt of Palisades Park, NJ; and one grandson.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Nancy E. McMaster.

Services were held on Monday, September 25, 2006 at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home in Port Jervis with the Reverend Robert D, Cassidy officiating.

Interment is at Fairmount Cemetery, Weymouth, MA.


GERALD BRUCE ‘GERRY’ SHEPPARD

COCHECTON, NY — Gerald Bruce “Gerry” Sheppard, a lifelong area resident, died on Sunday, September 24, 2006 at home. He was 50.

The son of Jacob Charles and Jeanette Marie Van-Houten Sheppard, he was born on March 30, 1956 in Callicoon.

Sheppard was a former millman at Sullivan Highway Products in Fosterdale. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, Forz Orr Mor Hunting Club, Sullivan County Sportsmen’s Federation, Sullivan County Longbeards and the Stony Brook Hunting Club.

He is survived by his brothers and sisters, Randy Sheppard and his wife April of Cochecton, William Sheppard and his wife Heidi of Cochecton, Donald Sheppard and his wife Sheila of Kenoza Lake, Jack Sheppard and his wife Marianne of Stuart, FL, Donna Hoff and her husband Karl of Wallenpaupak, PA, Karen Smith and her husband Pat of Cochecton, Cheryl Buono and her husband Mike of Seelyville, PA, Robert Sheppard and his wife Lisa of Lake Huntington, Jeffrey Sheppard of Florida, Jacob Sheppard of Womelsdorf, PA; several nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.

JULIA TKACH

SPARROWBUSH, NY—Julia Tkach died on Friday, September 22, 2006 at Bon Secours Community Hospital of Port Jervis. She was 86.

The daughter of the late Peter and Eva Rozum Tkach, she was born on November 29, 1919 in Yonkers.

She is survived by her brother, Michael Tkach; a sister, Helen Tkach of Cobleskill; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Praslick and Anne Tkach.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Interment is at the Rural Valley Cemetery in Cuddebackville.
