New heart provides fresh start for Barryville teen

BARRYVILLE, NY—Things are looking anything but grim for an Eldred High School teen after receiving a new heart on Friday, September 22.

Thirteen-year-old Emily Grimm was taken to the emergency room at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis on September 17, after her feet began to swell unexpectedly. Even more alarming was Emily’s heart rate, which climbed to 170 beats per minute, according to her father, Bob Grimm.

Following a transfer to Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown, NJ, Emily was transferred to New York-Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, in New York City. Ultimately, it was determined that she suffers from a form of heart disease called Restrictive Cardiomyopathy (RC).

Wayne adopts federal emergency standards

Homeland Security funds linked to new procedures

HONESDALE, PA - Wayne County now has the latest, most up-to-date emergency system there is. It’s called NIMS and it went into effect this past week when the county commissioners approved it.

NIMS stands for National Incident Management System and it’s a nationwide program and ensures that all government, private-sector, and nongovernmental organizations can work together seamlessly to prepare, respond to and recover from domestic incidents, regardless of cause, size or complexity.

Bethel comprehensive plan needs tweaking

Officials split on one acre or two for new houses

BETHEL, NY—Should new homes in Bethel be built on lots at least two acres in size, or is one acre enough? It is a question that is pitting the members of the Bethel Planning Board against the town’s supervisor, Harold Russell.

The question came up at a public hearing regarding the comprehensive plan that is being prepared for the town by the comprehensive plan committee.
