Writers conference to focus on creative process
HONESDALE, PA The Wayne County Arts Alliance (WCAA) will sponsor an opportunity for writers in progress to learn more about the writing process and to receive publishing tips from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 21, at Honesdale High School.
This years theme is Listening to the Voices: Our Creative Inspirations. The first three speakers of the day will focus on the creative process. The afternoon session will be devoted to publishing and editing, with several skilled editors available to read participants manuscripts.
The speakers for the conference include Marie Bongiovanni, Clara Gillow Clark, Marcia Nehemiah and Joelle Dujardin Kirkland.
Bongiovanni is chair of the English Department at Lebanon Valley College, and has contributed regularly to Southwest Art, Wildlife Art News and Northern Lights.
Wayne County native Clark is an acclaimed author of historically based young adult fiction whose most recent novels include Hill Hawk Hattie and Hattie on Her Way.
Nehemiahs poems and essays have been published in The New York Times and Journal of New Jersey Poets. Her first book of poems, Reclamation, was published in 2005.
Kirkland is an associate editor at Highlights for Children and has previously worked for several non-fiction magazines. She will speak on the publishing process.
Registration forms for the conference are available at the WCAA office, 742 Main Street, Suite 201. Registration fees are $50 for non-WCAA members, $40 for WCAA members, and $30 for students ages 14 to 21. There is a limit of 50 participants.
