By TOM KANE
HONESDALE, PA The US Army 109th Infantry Company A of the National Guard, which is stationed at the Lemnitzer Armory, is joining Wayne County Job Training to hold a career day on Wednesday, October 4.
An announcement was made at the meeting of the Wayne County Commissioners on September 26.
Two sessions will be held, one at 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and a second session from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The event is being held for high school students looking for a college or a job, college students beginning their careers and adults looking for a job. There will be a large number of representatives of colleges, employers and National Guard recruiters present at the event.
Our stint in Iraq is behind us, so we want to return to our original purpose which is to help our local communities, said Sergeant Bill Capo, the National Guards Career Counselor.
The Guard is donating the use of their armory on Tryon Street in Honesdale.
This is a replication of a previous career day we held and we are adding more presenters this time, said Marie McDonnell, Director of Wayne County Job Training.
We have notified all the school systems in Wayne and Pike Counties, Capo said.
The 109th is a great organization of whom we are very proud, said Tony Herzog, Chairman of the Wayne County Commissioners. You are doing a great service to our youth and those who are seeking employment.
I have been fighting for two years for the 109th to have a career counselor, and now it has happened, Capo said. I have signed on for four years to fill this position.
Last year, the Guard held a career day during the day and decided to hold a session in the evening for high school students and people who work.
