‘The Rosa Parks Story’ shown as part of non-violence month

LOCH SHELDRAKE, NY — As part of a month-long series of events celebrating the centennial of Gandhi’s call for nonviolent resistance in 1906, “The Rosa Parks Story” will be shown at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 29 at Sullivan County Community College’s Grossinger Dining Room. A facilitated discussion will follow the showing. Admission is free.

“The Rosa Parks Story,” starring Angela Bassett, is a biography of the courageous woman who sparked the civil-rights movement when she refused to yield her seat on a public bus to make way for white passengers. This act brought her to the attention of the KKK, the NAACP and a young minister named Martin Luther King. Most Americans know this much about her, but very little else. Julie Dash’s film tells the whole story of this inspiring American woman.
