Fiddlin up a storm in Tusten
NARROWSBURG, NY The Old Time Fiddlers, a well-known area musical group, will appear at the Tusten Theatre on Bridge Street at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 29. The show is sponsored by the Tusten Historical Society.
The Old Time Fiddlers was organized in the fall of 1978 by the late Fred Williams and John Beers of Wayne County, PA. Their mission is to promote and preserve traditional music and dance through performance and education. Since the Fiddlers first show in 1979, they have performed on over 250 occasions, at various grange halls, schools, firehalls and churches throughout Wayne and Pike counties in Pennsylvania and Sullivan and Delaware counties in New York. The vast majority of these performances were held to benefit non-profit organizations or as fundraisers to provide financial assistance to individuals with serious medical conditions.
Currently, the group features 12 to 15 musicians on a variety of traditional instruments, including guitar, banjo, upright bass, accordion, mandolin, dulcimer and fiddle. Their leader, Steve Jacobi, recently won his division for the third consecutive year at the prestigious Pembroke, Ontario, Canada fiddling contest held over Labor Day weekend.
The groups shows consist of old-time, Celtic, bluegrass and western swing tunes and songs. Some of the tunes performed in a typical show are Redwing, Wabash Cannonball, Ashokan Farewell, Golden Slippers and Orange Blossom Special.
Admission costs $7 for persons 12 years and over and $3 for children under 12.
