Time capsule burial to mark Public Lands Day at Grey Towers

MILFORD, PA — The public is invited to help bury a time capsule on the grounds of Grey Towers National Historic Site at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 30, and to tour the historic mansion for free from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to commemorate National Public Lands Day.

The time capsule, which contains a broad assortment of items and memorabilia about Grey Towers and forestry, is intended to be opened in 100 years, when the USDA Forest Service celebrates its bicentennial.

Grey Towers, ancestral home of Gifford Pinchot, is administered by the U.S. Forest Service, the agency founded by Pinchot. Part of its mission is to act as the keeper of the history of forestry in America, and the time capsule is an appropriate way to accomplish this.

Public Lands Day is a national celebration of America’s lands that are available for public use.
