KENDA MAE BARNES
BAKERSFIELD, CA Kenda Mae Barnes died on September 6, 2006 at Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield. She was 68.
The daughter of Clyde Kenneth Kensinger and Marian Kensinger, she was born on May 7, 1938 in Ashland, OH.
She is survived by her husband, Alan J. Barnes; adopted daughter Amanda of Bodfish; four children, Susan, Stephen and Fred Logue and Elizabeth Gray, all of Illinois; three stepchildren, Allan (Joe) Barnes and Linda Burakowski of Barryville, NY, and James (Jay) Barnes of Monticello, NY; her mother, Marian; her brother, Alan Bair of Oroville; sister Lois Nebergall of Guadalajara, Mexico; brothers-in-law Larry Barnes of Gouldsboro, ME and Arther (Farmer) Barnes of Barryville; sisters-in-law Elsa Weber of Barryville, Anita Godby of Matamoras, PA and Laurie Trotti of Livingston Manor, NY.
She was predeceased by two children, Deborah and Warren Logue.
JOHN E. KARAITIS
WEST MILFORD, NJ John E. Karaitis, former resident of Glen Spey, NY, died on Saturday, September 16, 2006 at Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown. He was 74.
He was born in Shenandoah, PA.
Karaitis worked as a teamster Local 560 at Arrow Carrier in Paterson, and then at Kelmar Labs in New York, retiring in 1992. He was an Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict, although not in Korea. He was a former member of the South Paterson Athletic Club.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; his son John and his wife Annmarie of Jefferson; his daughter, Sissy Coyle and her husband Wayne Coyle of West Milford; his son-in-law, Tom Dutton; his brothers, Vincent of Palm Coast, FL, and Robert of Cape Coral, FL; his sisters, Mary Finck of Goshen, NY and Katherine Jones of East Stroudsburg, PA; and nine grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Missy Dutton; and a brother, George.
Services were held Wednesday, September 20, 2006 at the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home in Pompton Plains, with a mass in St. Josephs Roman Catholic Church in West Milford.
Interment is at Mount Rest Cemetery in Butler.
JOSE MANUEL MENENDEZ
SPARROWBUSH, NY Jose Manuel Menendez, a resident of Sparrowbush, died Saturday, September 16, 2006 at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis. He was 70.
The son of the late Jose Manuel and the late Laura Martin Menendez, he was born on January 7, 1936 in File, Cuba.
Menendez worked for 32 years on Wall Street as a senior clerk with Merrill Lynch.
A family statement said: A wonderful husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend, he was taken from us abruptly and we never had a chance to say goodbye. Our hearts are filled with sorrow and pain, but surrounded with all the love he gave us. Tu queremos y nos volveremos a ver. Mil besitos y abrazod.
He is survived by his wife, Reina Menendez at home; a son, Jose Manuel Menendez and his wife Anca of Ossining; two daughters, Cristina Escott and her husband Brian of Sparrowbush, and Zuzet Vincent and her husband Billy of South Huntington; four grandchildren; a sister, Norma Ron and her husband Manolo of Puerto Rico; a niece, Aurora Ron and her children of Puerto Rico; a brother-in-law, Felipe Yturralde of Cuba; and a sister-in-law, Norca Oca of California.
Services were held Wednesday, September 20, 2006 at the Sparrowbush United Methodist Church with the Reverend Robert Mayer officiating.
