Von Steuben Parade & Germanfest

YULAN, NY — It’s time to break out the lederhosen, bratwurst and sauerkraut. The 16th Annual Von Steuben Day Parade kicks off at 12:00 noon on Saturday, September 23, at the four corners in Yulan. The parade is thrown in honor of Baron Wilhelm Frederich Von Steuben, a Prussian general who helped train Revolutionary War troops under General George Washington. The event is also held to celebrate German-American heritage.

Gudrun Roeder, who will ride in the parade as queen this year, said after the parade there will be a fair at Firemen’s Field, which will feature all kinds of food, beer, crafts and music. There will also be a return engagement of the Schuplatters folk dancers.

The event, which is also a fundraiser for the Yulan Fire Department, usually draws German-American descendents from all over the region.

Admission is $5 for adults; children under 12 are admitted for free.
