ROCK HILL, NY — A crowd of 150 people heaped applause on Andrew Neiderman, a successful author who returned to his hometown for a good cause.

The occasion was the annual dinner on September 16 at Bernie’s Holiday Restaurant for the Sullivan County Historical Society, an event that raises funds for the group. Neiderman was honored with the History Maker Award. He taught English and drama at Fallsburg Central School for 23 years, before moving to California to pursue his dream of making a living full time as a writer in 1983.

Former Fallsburg Central School board president Jack Lesher remembered Neiderman as a committed educator, who also served as president of the Sullivan County Teachers Association, and managed to write 12 novels while still teaching.

After moving to California, Neiderman published novels under his own name, and also under the name of V.C Andrews.

In 1990, Neiderman published his most famous novel, “The Devils Advocate,” which was ultimately made into a feature film starring Al Pacino and Keanu Reeves. Neiderman also helped write the screenplay for the movie.

Some of the highest praise for the author came from director of photography Craig DiBona, who worked with Neiderman on the film version of “The Devil’s Advocate.” DiBona complimented Neiderman’s work ethic and his ability to quickly make a decision. “When you have a guy like this, he will save your behind every time,” said DiBona.

DiBona and Neiderman are working together on a new film called “Rain” starring Faye Dunaway and Robert Loggia.
