Delaware Highlands Conservancy gets $3.8 million to protect land in Pike County
Ceremony includes ribbon cutting of new Grey Towers facilities

MILFORD, PAThere was a ceremony with a dual purpose last week: the Grey Towers National Historic site unveiled a new pavilion and parking lot, and the governors office handed over a ceremonial check for $3.8 million to help preserve land in Pike County.
The land to be protected is more than 1,000 acres of property from the estate of Gifford Pinchot, who was governor of Pennsylvania from 1923 to 1927 and from 1931 to 1935. He also founded the U.S. Forest Service under President Theodore Roosevelt at the dawn of the 20th century.

Plan to burn landfill gas for power revisited
Consultant says private developer is best option

MONTICELLO, NYCounty legislators are addressing a proposal that has been cropping up now and then since 2002: turning gas from the county landfill into electricity.
At the Sullivan County Public Works Committee meeting on Thursday, September 7, Peter Kuniholm, vice president of SCS Engineers, told legislators that a profit could be made from the methane gas generated at the landfill, which is currently burned off at two flares.

September rally race in Tusten cancelled
Organizer cites competing events

MONTICELLO, NYThe Rally New York race, scheduled for September for various locations in Tusten and western Sullivan County, has been cancelled. Ivan Orisk, one of the driving forces behind bringing the races to the county over the past three years, said he was forced to cancel the event because of a lack of participants.
