Constitutional Convention to be subject of Fireside Chat

PORT JERVIS, NY — The Minisink Valley Historical Society’s next Fireside Chat, scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 16 at the Port Jervis Library, will be “Miracle at Philadelphia: Benjamin Franklin and the Constitutional Convention.” This program, part of the society’s efforts to remember our nation’s Revolutionary War and the subsequent creation of our nation, will look at Benjamin Franklin’s role during the convention that created the U.S. Constitution. In addition, a handout will be given to participants on the American Revolution. There is no charge for admission.

The name of the Fireside Chat comes from the informal radio chats that President Franklin Roosevelt used during the years of the Depression and World War H. Intended to introduce area residents to the many facets of the region’s long and eventful history, the series will be jointly presented with the Port Jervis Free Library and take place in the library’s reference room at 138 Pike Street.
