Sullivan County ATV Poker Run rolls up another success

Benefit brings riders from near and far

BETHEL, NY — ATV riders arrived in the early morning fog on September 9. By the time the first group headed out on the 50-mile trek over county trails, the field across from Russell Farm was packed with event veterans and first timers. Some riders arrived en masse. For example, the Mudbuds, an Orange County group, showed up with 25 riders to support the eighth annual Sullivan County ATV Association event.

Other riders opted for the shorter 30-mile course.

In either case, everyone ended up back at the staging area for a meal, prize drawings and a chance to tell each other tales of their muddy sojourn. Seven-month- old Daniel Omogbai of Rock Hill, one of two recipients of the benefit funds, was in his stroller looking spiffy with his SCATV Poker Run wool hat pulled down around his ears, while attentive mom Jennifer talked with event organizers and participants.

Nearby, the other recipient—adorable five-year- old Brianna Houghtaling—posed with her parents, Melissa and Mitch, along with her uncle Mike, sister Caitlyn, aunt Sally and grandma Leah.
