JAMES R. ‘POP’ ESCOTT

SPARROWBUSH, NY — James R. “Pop” Escott, a 30-year resident of Sparrowbush, died on Sunday, August 27, 2006 at Bon Secours Community Hospital. He was 68.

The son of the late Wilbur and Ruth Escott, he was born on July 15, 1938 in Carbondale, PA.

Escott retired from ShopRite of Middletown and was co-owner of Gamo’s Country Store in Sparrowbush. He was a member of the Sparrowbush United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Bertha E. Frayer Escott, at home; a son, Brian J. Escott and his wife Cristina of Sparrowbush; three brothers, Robert, Wilbur and David; four sisters, Carol, Susan, Alice and Jean; two grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held Saturday, September 2, 2006 at the Sparrowbush United Methodist Church with the Reverend Robert Mayer officiating.

AMY L. FIGUEROA

SPARROWBUSH, NY — Amy L. Figueroa, a resident of Sparrowbush, died Sunday, September 3, 2006 at home. She was 26.

The daughter of Gary Page and Linda Crane Totaan, she was born on February 7, 1980 in Newburgh.

Figueroa was a homemaker and an avid animal caregiver. She enjoyed working with the local animal shelters.

She is survived by her husband, Luis Figueroa, at home; one son, Luis, at home; one daughter, Kiana, at home; her father, Gary Page of Bloomingburg; her mother, Linda Totaan of Bloomingburg; two sisters, Stacy Page of Barryville and Ashley Totaan of Bloomingburg; paternal grandmother Idella Shreve of Ohio; maternal grandfather Lee Crane of Indiana; and several aunts; uncles; cousins; nieces and nephews.

Services were held on Wednesday, September 6, 2006 at the Gridley-Horan Funeral Home on Walden.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family to be used at their discretion.


KATHERINE V. LYNCH

SMALLWOOD, NY — Katherine V. Lynch died on Thursday, August 31, 2006 at the North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset.

The daughter of the late Walter and Sarah Smith Lynch, she was born in Toledo, OH.

Lynch was the retired assistant comptroller for the Health and Hospital Corporation in New York City. She was a longtime area resident and a communicant of St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church in Monticello. She also spent time in Naples, FL, where she attended St. Elizabeth Seton Church and participated in parish activities.

She is survived by her sister, Julie Lynch of Little Neck.

Services were held Monday, September 4 at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church in Monticello with the Father Robert Ginel officiating.

Interment is at the Evergreen Cemetery in Bethel.


BARBARA PETSCH

BAILEYTON, TN — Barbara Petsch, formerly of Shohola,PA, died on Tuesday, August 29, 2006 at home in Baileyton. She was 67.

Petsch worked at Baileyton Restaurant. She was a member of Notre Dame Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Petsch of Baileyton; a daughter, Barbara Ann and her husband James Rudolph of Baileyton; a son, John Mueger of Kerhonkson, NY; her mother, Ann Walther of Baileyton; three grandchildren; and an aunt, Win Milner of Baileyton.

She was predeceased by her father, Herman Walther.

Services were held Friday, September 1, 2006 at the Jeffers Memorial Chapel in Greenville TN, with Father Jim Harvey officiating.

MATILDA REBER

ELDRED, NY — Matilda Reber of Eldred died Saturday, September 2, 2006 in Milford, PA. She was 91.

The daughter of the late Max and Clara Brenell Rust, she was born on February 14, 1915 in New York City.

Reber was the former owner of Reber’s Restaurant in Barryville. She was a member of the Highland Seniors Group, AARP and the Town of Lumberland Senior Citizens.

She is survived by a son, Frederick Reber and his wife Eileen of Barryville; one daughter, Erica Reber Levey and her husband, Spencer, of Warren, NJ; and four grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Herman F. Reber.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Internment will be at Montoza Cemetery in Barryville.

ANITA M. TOSCANO

LAKE HUNTINGTON, NY — Anita M. Toscano died on Tuesday, September 5, 2006 at home. She was 70.

The daughter of the late John and Angelina Pinto Colucci, she was born on February 22, 1936 in New York City.

Toscano was a longtime area resident and was the retired co-owner of Pete’s Pub in Lake Huntington. She was a member of Catherine Cirelli Marine Corps League Women Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband Peter Toscano, at home; two daughters, Nardina Nash and her husband Brian of Corcotan, MN, and Maria Frolenza and her husband Pat of Fosterdale; a son, Peterson Toscano of Hartford, CT; a sister, Theresa Giamburro and her husband Thoms of Long Island; six grandchildren; one great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Sunday, September 10, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at Our Place Restaurant in Lake Huntington.

DAMASCUS, PA — A memorial service will be held for Verlyn Dale Smith Sr. at the Damascus United Methodist Church on September 10, 2006 at 3 p.m. with the Reverend Debra Vandemark-Daily officiating. A lunch will be served by the ladies of the church in the church dining room following the service.
