Internationally renowned artist at Salon d’Arts

JEFFERSONVILLE, NY — The Salon d’Arts of Jeffersonville, at 4917 Main Street, will present the serigraphs of Dan Christensen in a show that starts Sunday, September 10 and ends after Columbus Day. There will be an opening brunch on September 10 from 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m., with complimentary champagne and mimosas.

Christensen’s works, with their delicate, luminous colors and carefully juxtaposed shapes, stand as excellent examples of the school of 20th century American Art known as “Lyrical Abstraction” or “Color Field Painting.” A painter in the tradition of such American artists as Jackson Pollack, Helen Frankenthaler, Kenneth Noland, Morris Louis and Hans Hofmann, Christensen, whose exuberance carries over onto the canvas, believes in the virtue of art for pleasure’s sake.

Christensen’s works have won critical acclaim from American and European art critics in distinguished journals such as Artforum, Artnews and Art International, as well as in general publications such as Time, Newsweek and New York. Describing his work as “pastoral,” “instinctual,” “fragile as well as lush,” “sensual,” “ lighter than air” and “delectable,” reviewers have praised Christensen’s ability to achieve spatial depth in his paintings through his remarkable use of color. James Monte, former curator of the Whitney Museum of American Art, has remarked on the “subtle atmospheric presence” in Christensen’s paintings, while the noted art critic, Clement Greenberg, called Dan Christensen “one of the painters on whom the course of American art depends.”

Christensen’s works can be found in the collections of museums across the country, including the Whitney, the Guggenheim Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Hirshborn Museum and Sculpture Garden and the Chicago Art Institute.
