Two for September at The Artery
MILFORD, PA The Artery Gallery in Milford, PA, will feature the work of two artists in its September exhibition, which opens on September 7 and continues through October 9. There will be an artists reception from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 16.
Christopher Staples, who now lives and paints in Cannel, NY, is a graduate of Hartford Art School at the University of Hartford in Connecticut. Since graduation, she has shown her work and received awards in many exhibits in the Hudson Valley region of New York. Of her method she says she is fascinated by layers, gestures, found objects, symbols and mark-making. Juxtapositions of old and new, man-made and natural, or even two or more images excite me since their meaning is changed by their relationship to each other and with each viewer. Artist, artwork and viewer are then all connected to create a dynamic and alchemic moment.
Staples will be showing large-scale assemblages of found objects. An old bed frame and an old wooden door, for example, become frames for disparate objects. She will also show some of her monoprint\ collage pieces that are abstract and layered.
Featured artist Sharon Nakazoto studied intensively for six years in Japan with Professor Kamijo, the celebrated Shodo master. Shodo, the way of the brush, taps the singular properties of oriental papers, brushes and ink to express a world of imagination that is boundless. Sharons mastery of this elegant and expressive art form is evident, and her paintings are highly praised and collected in the United States and Japan. In this exhibition, Sharons most recent paintings, assemblages and collages will be shown.
The Artery Gallery is located in the Forest Hall Building, at the stoplight in Milford, PA. Gallery hours are 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Thursday through Sunday and 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Monday.
