Roasters in town
Narrowsburg gets a community coffee house
By SANDY LONG
NARROWSBURG, NY Up until now, the only freshly roasted fragrance floating through town was coming from Narrowsburg Feed and Grain. But on Labor Day weekend, that will change when a new coffee shop, Roasters, opens its doors and releases the aroma of freshly roasted, custom-blended coffee.
Proprietors Will Geisler and Grady Avant of Milanville, PA, have created an intimate space in the Narrowsburg Mews, where they hope people will gather to enjoy a rotating selection of coffees, including the custom-crafted Big Eddy Breakfast Blend, specialty dark roasts, a decaffeinated selection and an organic fair-trade blend.
In support of local land preservation efforts, a percentage of the sale of organic bag bean coffee will be donated to the regional land trust, The Delaware Highlands Conservancy.
Roasters customers can check out a selection of classic espresso drinks, such as cappuccino and lattes. Geisler is perfecting a version of cafe con leche, using a French press and fresh milk. Flavored syrups will round out the mix of customizing options.
Roasters will also feature locally produced goods, like Beach Lake Bakery products, and light lunch fare such as veggie sandwiches or pear and arugula salad topped with blue cheese. Fresh juices and smoothies are under consideration for next summers beverage menu.
Geisler and Avant are exploring various special events, such as open mic nights for poetry and music. Wed like this to function as an informal and comfortable place for people to come and hang out. We hope to keep alive the old social aspect of the coffeehouse, while serving really great coffee, said Geisler.
Initially, the shop will be open seven days a week, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Hours may be adjusted based on seasonal or community demand or special events.
