Tour a glassworkers house
WHITE MILLS, PA The 1867 Glassworkers House at 131 Charles Street will be open on Saturday, September 2 and Sunday, September 3 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., giving visitors a taste of what home life would have been like for an average laborer in the area in 1875. Volunteer docents are on hand to guide visitors through the home.
The Glassworkers House is one of the original seven small sloped-roof houses built by Christian Dorflinger for the workers at his glass factory in White Mills. Changes introduced this summer include a revision of the upstairs girls bedroom with the addition of second rope bed. New displays downstairs include a very early ironing board and a crater, which is a small converter placed over a lamp chimney to heat a small amount of water.
Admission to the house is $2 for adults, $1.50 for seniors (55 and over), and $1 for students 6 to 18 (children under 6 are free).
