Trophies, plaques and fun for all

Sullivan County Women’s League Softball players and teams get well-deserved recognition

By RICHARD A. ROSS

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, NY — Now that the 2006 season of the Sullivan County Women’s Softball League is in the books, it was time for one last gathering to present the trophies, medals and plaques to the players and teams who excelled this season.

So it was that the players from the A and B division teams gathered at the Fireman’s Field for their annual picnic, featuring plenty of food, drink and a DJ to help dance the night away.

League President Theresa Nietzel presented regular season trophies to Dutch’s Bar/T&C Tanning for third place in the A Division. Charlie’s Angels got one for second place, which was received by captain Jo Walls. Erin Shuart was on hand to receive the large first-place trophy for Cooper Paint, who went undefeated at 19-0.

Individually personalized key chains went to the Cooper Paint players.

Next up came the playoff trophies. Charlie’s Angels received the runner-up trophy for the A Division. Cooper Paint won the championship trophy. Cooper Paint had championship tie-dyed t-shirts made, which they distributed to team members at the picnic.

In the B division, Cobbler’s garnered the runner up trophy, while New Hope Community won the championship honors.

Nietzel awarded the Most Improved Player and Most Valuable Player trophies for each team. Visit www.rivereportersports.com for a list of all of these awards, plus a list of the newly elected officers for 2007 and pictures from the picnic.
