Woodstock revelers grumble at Skinners Falls

COCHECTON, NY ž Banished from the second sacred site of the Woodstock Festival memorial celebrationžYasgur Roadžsome Woodstock devotees retreated to Landers Campground at Skinners Falls to lick their wounds.

“You can’t have fun anymore,” said Marty Ascolese, lead singer for the Orange County group Haywire, who have been performing at the Yasgur Road gathering on Route 17B for several years.

The group, which set up their musical instruments at the campground along the Upper Delaware, had a rollicking good time on Saturday night.

“It wasn’t the same,” Ascolese said. “But it was a good crowd and was a great gig, even though we had to be quiet after 11:00 p.m., which is the rule at the campground.”

“Pretty lame!” said another member of the group. “In the past, we didn’t disturb anyone. We came and had a good time and went home. What’s the big deal? Roy’s farm is private land. I don’t get it.”

“The police told us that the festival had moved to this place here,” said Bryan Orebeck of Dingmans Ferry, PA.

“They even gave us directions how to get here,” a woman said.

“This is hurting the community,” said Lee March of Oneonta. “That’s why we’re herežto celebrate the community.”

“I’ve been coming here for 18 years and this is ridiculous,” said Manny Duallo of Honesdale, PA.

“I’m from Annapolis, MD,” said Debbie Case. “I came here expressly to attend Woodstock. I’ve been gypped.”

“When we arrived at 3:00 o’clock in the morning on Saturday, the cops were there keeping us from entering the farm. We didn’t expect to see the cops at that hour,” said Bill Walsh of Harvey’s Lake. “Don’t these guys sleep?”
