Bus tour brings Revolutionary history to life

NORTHEAST PA — There will be a two-day narrated bus tour tracing the route of Sullivan’s March through Pennsylvania during the Revolutionary War starting on Saturday, August 26, and ending on Sunday, August 27.

The Revolutionary War military campaign that came to be known as “Sullivan’s March” was undertaken according to General Washington’s direct orders to execute a brutal push intended to drive the British, Loyalist, and Iroquois (Six Nations) alliance all the way back to the Iroquois capital in New York. Although it was recorded by American historians as a truly amazing military feat, the events of 1779 are remembered much more bitterly by those of native descent as a time of great destruction. The tour will offer a balanced view of the native and Colonial history that took place right in our back yards.

Passengers may embark on the tour at one of three locations: Elmira NY; Wilkes-Barre PA; or Easton, PA. The tour winds northwest from Easton, PA, through the Pocono Mountains, into the Wyoming Valley, up the Susquehanna River into the Endless Mountains, and finally crosses the border into the southern tier of New York State.
