And the winner is...
DIGit Media Exposition winners announced
NARROWSBURG, NY The Delaware Valley Arts Alliance, the arts council for Sullivan County, has announced the winners of the 2006 DIGit Media Exposition in seven best categories.
Best in show is Restate of the Union, by Jorge Aguirre, Jr., who presents a very common image of our collective social experience, framed in a most revealing way.
Dont Box Me In, by Richard Fendelman, was chosen as best documentary. It depicts what Fendelman calls development-friendly politicians pitted against neighborhood people fighting to keep Home Depots ugly big box out of Coconut Grove, Florida.
The Best Narrative award goes to Dress Up, by Karen Lawler, a film that brings to light the cycle of abuse that many women endure and perpetuate as mothers, wives, and daughters.
The best experimental work is The Subway Show, by Nurit Bar-shai and Kleoni Manoussakis, Brooklyn-based artists who have created a one-time-only performance for video.
Little Strong, by Kao Kuo-Ting, Wang Tsai-Pin and Liang Hsiu-Hui, got the nod for Best Animation, with a tale of the millennia-long war between cockroaches and humankind.
Eldred High School in Eldred won the award for Best Student Work with its piece, Wal-Mart Comes to Town. For this mockumentary, students shot all the movie content, wrote the scripts and did all the production work on school computers.
The Best Musical Work award went to Roebling Resonance by Kazzrie Jaxen, who points out that the underside of the Roebling Bridge in Barryville, NY looks exactly like the inner action of a pianoand is constructed from wood and metal strings, just like her instrument.
The DIGit Exposition, a week-long celebration of media, movies, video and sound art, opens with a reception on Saturday, August 19 at noon at the Delaware Arts Center, 37 Main Street, Narrowsburg, NY.
