16 teams vie for tourney title in Nick Mootz benefit

FREMONT CENTER, NY - From the moment that the first pitch heads over the plate on Friday evening, August 4, to the final out of the championship game on August 6, the action will be non-stop and the excitement will build as the Seventh Annual Fremont Center Softball Tournament unfolds.

Organized by Loreen Gebelein, the tournament is a benefit for soon-to-be 15-year-old Nick Mootz of Kenoza Lake, who is battling Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Staying alive

MONTICELLO, NY - In the twilight hours of the Monticello Men’s softball regular season, below the spotlight of the top contenders, two teams fought for their playoff existence on July 25 as Rockbar sought to stave off a hot Ratner Paving squad.

At stake was the sixth playoff spot, which is still up for grabs amid the ever-shifting sands of team standings.

Cougars win final two but miss playoffs

LIBERTY, NY - There’s a world of difference between preserving your season and playing a game that doesn’t figure into your destiny.

With their backs to the wall on July 26, the Catskill Cougars needed to defeat Middletown Babe Ruth-Black to keep hope alive for the playoffs. The Cougars needed to beat Middletown on consecutive days and hope that the Hudson Valley Vipers would lose their last game. Middletown was already in the playoff picture.
