History day at Lacawac

LAKE WALLENPAUPACK, PA — Local historical societies and historians will present a day to learn about local history at the 510-acre Lacawac Sanctuary from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 5 at Lacawac Sanctuary. The day’s events include activities, displays, speakers and an 11:00 a.m. tour of the sanctuary’s 103-year-old historic buildings.

Among the ongoing displays will be chair caning, a one-room schoolhouse and quilting.

Presentations will include “Tales of a Country Undertaker” by Art Frey at 1:45 p.m. and “John Burroughs: An Unknown Quantity in American Natural History” by Alvin L. Hall at 2:00 p.m. From 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. Jen Naugle, Promised Land State Park Environmental Education Specialist, will lead a walk to discuss old growth forests, tanning, forestry and natural resources and compare changes over time.
