Battle to be fought at Liberty

LIBERTY, NY — Liberty will become a haven for history buffs this weekend as the 143rd New York Volunteer Infantry recreate a Civil War battle at Walnut Mountain Park. The event, now in its 19th year, will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 5 and from 9:00 a.m. to conclusion of the afternoon battle on Sunday, August 6.

The re-enactors will establish authentic Union and Confederate camps where visitors can speak to the soldiers and their families as they go about their daily routines. There will be a candlelight tour on Saturday night, in which a lantern-bearing soldier will guide visitors through the darkness to various stations to view nighttime scenarios at the camps.

Admission costs $8 for adults, $7 for senior citizens and is free for children five years and under. The candlelight tour costs an additional $5. Walnut Mountain Park is located off Route 55 West.
