ARTHUR PAUL BAKER JR

SPARROWBUSH, NY — Arthur Paul Baker Jr. of Sparrowbush died Sunday, July 23, 2006 at home. He was 83.

The son of the late Arthur Paul Baker Sr. and Mildred Legget Baker, he was born April 3, 1923 in Urichsville, OH.

A resident of the area for most of his life, Baker was a retired truck driver for Norman Schultz, Bloomingburg.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Barnes Baker of southern Louisiana; two sons, Arthur P. Baker III of Leesville, LA and Robert J. Baker and his wife Joan of Sparrowbush; three daughters, Joan Kappes of Matamoras, Gloria Hogencamp of Leesville and Gail Baker of Leesville; three brothers, Thomas Baker and his wife Marion of Middletown, Lawrence Baker of Howells and William Baker of Montgomery; two sisters, Linda Higby of Howells and Dolores Green of Walden; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by four brothers, Ralph, Frederick, James and John Baker; and four sisters, Mildred Huebschmann, Alice Williams, Gloria Schults and Rena Davis.

Funeral services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family at the Hillside Cemetery, Middletown with the Rev. James Brosius officiating.

MILDRED COHEN

MONTICELLO, NY — Mildred Cohen of Monticello died on Sunday, July 23, 2006 at home. She was 98.

The daughter of Mendel Reuven and Frumah Cohen, she was born in Poland on March 27, 1908.

Cohen is survived by three sons, Morton Cohen, George Cohen of Monticello and Bernard Cohen of Bethel; a daughter, Marilyn Kalson; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services were held on Monday, July 24, 2006 in the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home Inc. with Rabbi Ben Zion Chanowitz officiating.

Interment took place in the Liberty Street Synagogue Cemetery, Thompson Road, Monticello.

The family will be sitting Shiva until Friday, July 28 at Mildred’s home in Monticello.


DONALD C. COATES

PINE BUSH, NY — Donald C. Coates of Pine Bush died Thursday, July 20, 2006 in Salem, VA. He was 74.

The son of Donald Coates and Helen Armbuster Coates, he was born on October 6, 1931 in New York City.

Coates was a retired electrician for American Felt and Filter Co., New Windsor. A veteran of the 82nd Airborne Division of the U.S. Army, he was a member of the G. Paul Bettinger Post #1308 of the American Legion and a member of the Church of the Infant Saviour in Pine Bush. Coates was a 32 Degree Mason with the Wallkill Lodge of which he was a former master, and a member of the Pine Bush Senior Citizens and the Walker Valley Senior Citizens.

He is survived by his wife, Vilma Corti Coates at home; a son, Donald C. Coates and his wife Jeanette of Pine Bush; two grandchildren; a brother, Edward Coates and his wife Joann of Callicoon; a sister-in-law, Mary Coates of New City; a brother-in-law, Louis Corti and his wife Cathy of Pine Bush; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held Monday, July 24, 2006 at the Church of the Infant Saviour, Pine Bush with Father Kevin Gallagher officiating.

Interment will take place in New Prospect Cemetery, Pine Bush.

ARTHUR E. FASSHAUER

HONESDALE, PA — Arthur E. Fasshauer of Honesdale died July 22, 2006 in the Ellen Memorial Health Care Center following an illness. He was 86.

The son of the late Arthur F. and Isabel Hiller Fasshauer, he was born October 10, 1919 in Honesdale.

A graduate of Honesdale High School and the Cybick School of Tailoring, Fasshauer served in the U.S. Air Force from 1941 to 1945. He was the owner of Art’s Custom Tailor Shop, now Art’s for Him, in Honesdale. An active member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, he was also a member of the Lutheran brotherhood and the Tri-County Brotherhood. Known for his active participation in the Honesdale community, Fasshauer was the originator of the “Concerts in the Park” series. He was also a member of many organizations including Boy Scouts, Honesdale Area Jaycees, the Rotary Club, Protection Engine Co. #3, the Wayne Choralairies and the Irem Temple Shrine.

He is survived by his wife, Eloise Noble at home; two daughters, Mary and husband Paul F. Lloyd II of Honesdale and Jane and husband Jerome D. Theobald of Honesdale; a son, Thomas Arthur and his wife Gail of Beach Lake; a sister, Ruth Fasshauer of Honesdale; six grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a brother, Bernard C. Fasshauer of Jackson Center, OH.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 26, 2006 in St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Honesdale with the Rev. Kenneth Buckwalter officiating.

Interment took place in the Lutheran Cemetery, Honesdale.

CHARLES F. GUTEKUNST JR

HIGHLAND LAKE, NY — Charles F. Gutekunst, Jr. of Wurtsboro and Highland Lake died Monday, July 24, 2006. He was 58.

The son of the late Charles and Patricia Gutekunst, he was born on April 24, 1948 in Manhattan.

Gutekunst graduated from Fordham University and served in the Fighting 69th Regiment of the U.S. National Guard. He was the former CFO of Crimmins Construction Company of New York City, the financial director of Yonkers Contracting and was co-proprietor of G-Mart Supermarket of Wurtsboro with his wife. Gutekunst was also the chairman of the Town of Highland Planning Board, past vice president of the Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Mamakating Lions Club. A member of the New York Caledonian Curling Club, he also enjoyed golfing and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Paulus Gutekunst at home; his brothers, James of Highland Lake and Manhattan, Gary of Katonah and Paul of Crestwood; his sister, Annemarie Campion of Bronxville; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Thursday, July 27, 2006 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Gray-Rasmussen Funeral Home, Barryville.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 28, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Shohola, PA with the Rev. Thomas Major officiating.

Interment will take place at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Eldred.


RONALD HERRMAN

QUINCY, MA — Ronald Herrmann of Quincy died Sunday, July 23, 2006 at the Brockton V.A. Medical Center in Brockton. He was 70.

The son of Richard and Katherine Chenick Herrmann, he was born on September 9, 1935 in New York City.

A longtime resident of Roscoe, NY, Herrman was a retired teamster with Teamsters Union Local #693, Binghamton, NY. He also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and attended a one-room schoolhouse in Fremont Center, NY.

He is survived by a daughter, Karen Yee of Quincy; three brothers, Richard Herrmann of Delmar, NY, Robert Herrmann of Santa Maria, CA and Raymond Herrmann of Hankins, NY; one sister, Sylvia Sheridan of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Thursday, July 27, 2006 at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, Jeffersonville, NY from 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held Friday, July 28, 2006 at the funeral home at 11 a.m. with Pastor Gerald Wondra officiating.

Interment will take place in Riverview Cemetery, Roscoe.

JOHN D. LUCHSINGER

SOUND BEACH, NY — John D. “Jaxon” Luchsinger of Sound Beach, Long Island died on July 8, 2006.

He was the son of Jack D. and Helen Luchsinger.

He is survived by his wife, Jane; a daughter, Claudine Luchsinger; a son, Andrew Luchsinger and his wife Christine; two grandchildren, Hannah and Molly; and four siblings, Joy D., Jay D., Jan D. and Jeff D.

Memorial services were held Wednesday, July 26, 2006.

HELEN MEYER

JEFFERSONVILLE, NY — Helen Meyer of Jeffersonville died Tuesday, July 11, 2006 at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 91.

The daughter of Frederick and Minna Steffens, she was born December 14, 1914 in Brooklyn, NY.

A homemaker, Meyer was the widow of the late William P. Meyer

She is survived by three nephews, Roy Koppenhofer of Wyomissing, PA, Frederick Steffens of North Branch, and Edward Steffens of Henrietta; and a niece, Janice Shapiro of Long Island.

Services were held on Monday, July 24, 2006 at Heavenly Rest Cemetery, North Branch with Pastor Roy Schaefer officiating.

Interment will take place at Heavenly Rest Cemetery.

GENEVIEVE REMILLARD

GLEN SPEY, NY — Genevieve Remillard of Glen Spey died Monday, July 17, 2006 at home. She was 100.

The daughter of the late Harry and Margaret Hanley Reed, she was born on April 15, 1906 in Brooklyn.

An area resident for 60 years, Remillard was the retired owner and operator of Remillard’s Cabins, Glen Spey. She was a member of Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Pond Eddy, member of the Altar and Rosary Society of the Church, member of the Highland Seniors, member of the Lumberland Seniors and member of the Ladies Auxiliary Lumberland Fire Dept.

She is survived by two granddaughters, Lynn Hull and her fiancé Larry Thompson of Port Jervis and Jamie Remillard Eaddy and her husband Dennis of Glen Spey; two great-grandsons, C.J. Hull of Virginia and Willie Rodriguez of Glen Spey; one great great grandson, Max Akridge of Washington D.C.; her former daughter-in-law, Joan Remillard of Peekskill; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Remillard, and several sisters and brothers.

Services were held Thursday, July 20, 2006 at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, Port Jervis.

Interment will take place at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Eldred.
