Pizza spices up Kauneonga farmer’s market

KAUNEONGA LAKE, NY — Brothers Benjamin and Jacob Friehling designed and built the portable brick oven, which they brought to the new farmers’ market in Kauneonga Lake. They sold 20 pizzas, which is not bad for a Friday afternoon.

The brothers are opening a restaurant this fall, to be called Jake’s Place at the old Lakeview Diner on the lake.

The farmers’ market, which is part of the community’s Sullivan Renaissance project, takes place every Friday in July and August from 2:00 to 6:30 p.m. in the pavilion behind the Kauneonga Lake Fire Department.

The market features local organic produce, dairy products, baked goods, kosher poultry, BBQ chicken and cooking demonstrations by Chef Andy Yeomans from The Fat Lady Café.
