Fort Delaware to reopen
NARROWSBURG, NY - Fort Delaware, a museum recreation of Cushetunk, the first white settlement on the Upper Delaware, will be open for the remainder of the summer due to recent changes in proposed county budget cutbacks.
The original Cushetunk was about six miles north of Narrowsburg on the Pennsylvania side. Fort Delaware replicates the stockade (built in 1761 to protect against Indian attack) and the buildings it contained, and presents re-enactments of daily life from rifle drills to spinning, as shown here. This coming weekend will feature a demonstration of colonial cooking.
Fort Delaware was recently threatened by budget cuts, but thanks to a recent amendment to the county budget, it will reopen on Saturday, July 29. It will be open through Labor Day on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sundays from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m., and Mondays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
