NEW YORK & PENNSYLVANIA — Activity was slow at the disaster recovery center site at the Livingston Manor high school in Livingston Manor, NY last Friday afternoon. Only a couple of people were standing in front of the half dozen or so stations set up in the gymnasium by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to process claims for assistance.

A FEMA representative said the center had experienced a one-day high of 125 residents at the site and a low of 35. He said the center, which opened on July 11, would stay open for at least another two weeks.

In Pennsylvania, a FEMA mobile disaster recovery center has been visiting various locations in Wayne County, with stops scheduled for Equinunk, Waymart, Hawley and Honesdale.

According to FEMA, 7,307 individuals have registered for disaster assistance in Pennsylvania, and $5.07 million has been disbursed to help disaster-affected homeowners and renters who need a place to live or emergency repairs.

In New York, more than 8,000 residents have filed for assistance and $9.1 million in disaster housing assistance has been disbursed.

Only primary homes are eligible for FEMA recovery funds, not second or vacation homes.

To register for assistance, visit fema.gov or call 800/621-FEMA (3362).
