Rum tasting at Laurel Villa

MILFORD, PA — “The other white liquor” will be shown off in all its glory as the Laurel Villa Country Inn & Restaurant in Milford hosts its first “Rums Around the World” tasting event at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 19. The event will be held at the Laurel Villa at 2nd and Ann Streets, in the formal gardens overlooking the koi pond, weather permitting. Guests will enjoy four premium sipping rums and, for the grand finale, a sumptuous Mango Mojito.

“Rum sales have skyrocketed in the last year,” said Janice Halsted, innkeeper at the Laurel Villa, “and rum producers have begun to experiment with a huge variety of new flavors.”

“Rums Around the World” will feature Bacardi 8 from Puerto Rico, which is cask-aged for eight years; Mount Gay Special Reserve from Barbados; Appleton Estate V/X, a Jamaican five-year-old; and 10 Cane from Trinidad. Each rum will be presented and discussed by Michelle Pevovarnik and Tom Rogari of Bartolomeo Pio Wines & Spirits. A mango-infused rum is the new twist on the popular Mojito cocktail.

Chef Carl will create a selection of scrumptious island-influenced hors d’oeuvres to accompany each course of the tasting. Guests who choose to stay for dinner will receive 15 percent off their entree.

Dress is summer casual. Seating for “Rums Around the World” is limited and reservations, at $25 per person, should be made by July 17.
