Wild about wildlife
SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY ¾ The National Park Service (NPS) and the Western Public Library Summer Reading program are joining together to bring the outdoors, indoors this summer.
On July 14 at the Delaware Free Branch in Callicoon, on July 21 at the Tusten-Cochecton branch in Narrowsburg, and on July 28 at the Jeffersonville branch in Jeffersonville, the NPS will present a hands-on program entitled Wild about Wildlife. Children will learn how to identify a variety of local mammals and learn about their physical characteristics, diet and habitat. Age specific programs will be held from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m. for children in first through third grade, and from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. for fourth to sixth graders.
The programs continue on July 19, 20 and 21. The younger students will learn about wildlife, insects, weather, plants and seasons of the Upper Delaware River valley through stories and crafts from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m. Older students will participate in a NPS Scavenger Hunt and learn about the different national parks from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
