Huge softball tourney to benefit Miret and family

By RICHARD A. ROSS

FREMONT CENTER, NY - Combine a love of softball, a weekend of non-stop action featuring a panoply of local teams and a great cause, and you’ll have every reason to visit Fremont Center on June 15 and 16. There you will witness a double-elimination tournament to benefit youth-soccer coach Lenny Miret and his family in their ongoing five-year struggle against cancer. (See June 22, 2006 issue of The River Reporter for complete story).

The tournament, which is being organized by Dennis Brockner of Stone Arch Inn, will display the talents of many area teams, including Stone Arch Inn, Matthews on Main, Lake Huntington Garage, American Electric, Davis Excavating, Darders, McGurrin’s Pub, Ronny’s Ringers, Westies, Sidetracks, Kohler Lumber, Sutphen East, L+H Gorr and M+M Waste Removal.

Miret, a former teammate of Brockner on H+H Construction in the beer league and Ideal Snacks in the Monticello Men’s Softball League, is a beloved member of the community and a tremendous advocate of youth soccer.

Contact Brockner at 845/482-5230 to make a donation or to volunteer with concessions and other tournament tasks.

See next week’s edition of The River Reporter for more details.
