This little red caboose in Shohola hosts a plethora of railroad memorabilia and other historical artifacts.

Last but not least

Treasure hidden inside the little red caboose may be one of Shohola’s best-kept secrets

SHOHOLA, PA — There are probably few who have noticed the little red caboose sitting next to the Exxon station on Route 434 near the Shohola/Barryville bridge who have guessed the riches it contains. Not just an abandoned railroad car, it’s a museum—the aptly named Red Caboose Museum.

Inside the car is railroad memorabilia from the 1800s, railroad videos to view, baseball lore, cards and photos. There’s a slide show marking Shohola’s progress from the 1800s to present day. There’s a Civil war display and Indian artifacts reported to be from 4000 B.C. A model train layout fascinates visiting children, who are allowed to operate it. A gift area offers postcards, old photos, toys and books about Shohola’s varied past.

The museum is open Saturdays and Sundays, Memorial Day to Labor Day, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Admission is free.
