Bethel—Fireworks on Sunday, July 2, at dusk, on Kauneonga Lake.

Liberty—Street fair on Tuesday, July 4 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Main Street. Vendors, car show and a skate-shop booth operated by Liberty’s TeamSkate, a group raising funds for the town’s new skate park.

Lumberland—Fourth of July parade on Tuesday, July 4. Parade starts at 12:30 p.m. at the fire department and marches to the town hall.

Monticello—Fireworks on Sunday, July 2, at approximately 9:00 p.m. at the racetrack. The Monticello Raceway fireworks are in their 37th year, and will follow the year’s only nighttime race card.

SHOHOLA, PA—There are probably few who have noticed the little red caboose sitting next to the Exxon station on Route 434 near the Shohola/Barryville bridge who have guessed the riches it contains. Not just an abandoned railroad car, it’s a museum—the aptly named Red Caboose Museum.

Starting a summer reading list

Summer is here. Your children are home from school. What will they do all summer?

Reading should be put somewhere near the top of your child’s list of things to do. Children who are good readers do better in school than students who do not like to read.

Studies show that children who are engaged in constructive activities maintain their grade level when they return to school in the fall. Children who read at least six books during the summer maintain their reading level over the summer and into the next school year.
