HELEN EILEEN SKINNER DERRICK

HONESDALE, PA — Helen Eileen Skinner Derrick, a resident of Honesdale, died Tuesday, June 13, 2006 in the Ellen Memorial Health Care Center in Honesdale.

The daughter of the late Eugene and Carrie Brown Mentor, she was born in Lakeville.

Derrick worked as a nurse’s aid. She was an avid reader of romance novels. She lived in Okeechobee, FL from 1966 to 2002, when she returned to Honesdale.

She is survived by a daughter, Janet Lassley and her husband, James of Honesdale; two step-daughters, Patricia Smith of Washington, NJ and Judith Ciccarelli and her husband Richard of Warren Township, NJ; three grandchildren, Bruce Lassley and his wife Lynda of Hawley, Linda Hinaman and her husband Paul of Beach Lake, and Dominick Mupo and his wife Kirti of Royal Palm Beach, FL; three step-grandchildren, Christopher Smith, Kathryn and Julia Ciccarelli; seven great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husbands, Clarence Skinner who died in 1977 and Patrick Derrick who died in 1995; a daughter, Gloria Peckham; a brother, Adrian Mentor; a sister, Isabelle Jamieson; and a grandson, Angelo Mupo.

Cremation took place at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory in Archbald.

Interment will be at Overlook Cemetery in Damascus, at the convenience of the family.

VIOLA MAY GRASSO

SPARROWBUSH, NY — Viola May Grasso, a resident of Sparrowbush and a longtime area resident, died Tuesday, June 13, 2006 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Horton Campus in Middletown. She was 79.

The daughter of the late Frank and Amelia Berger Grosberger, she was born May 13, 1927 in Queens, NY.

Grasso worked as cook at Child Safe Stay. She was a member of the Roosa Fleming V.F.W. Post No. 161 Auxiliary and the DAV Woman’s Auxiliary.

She is survived by four daughters, Viola DeGal and her husband James of Georgetown, TX, Marie Sardina and her husband Albert of Sparrowbush, Judy Grossi of Miramar, FL, and Carolyn Grossi of Sparrowbush; two brothers, John Grosberger of Crystal Run, FL and Herbert Grosberger of Las Vegas, NV; three sisters, Lorna Liekweg of Brooksbille, FL, Elaine Field of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Gertrude Rowan of Sayville, NY; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Grasso, who died in 1984 and her companion, Kurt Kantiz.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Interment will be at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, NY.

RITA O. HOFSAES

GREELELY, PA — Rita O. Hofsaes, a resident of San Ramon, CA and a former resident of Greeley, died April 24, 2006.

The daughter of Jane and Daniel O’Brien, she was educated in Brooklyn, NY where she attained city honors in mathematics.

She is survived by a daughter, Maureen Schliech; a son, Richard Jr.; six grandchildren, Freddie, Donna, Steven, Jacki, Kevin and Stephanie; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Richard F. Hofsaes.

Graveside services were held on Saturday, June 17 at the Indian Orchard Cemetery with Reverend Cliff Graham officiating.

DOREEN J. KALMBACH

MATAMORAS, PA — Doreen J. Kalmbach, a resident of Matamoras, died on Friday, June 16, 2006 at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis. She was 48.

The daughter of Terry and Jeanette (Geiger) Abbott, she was born January 22, 1958 in Port Jervis, NY.

She is survived by her husband, Frank R. Kalmbach; three sons, Justin, Travis and Zachary, all of Matamoras; her daughter, Brittney Kalmbach of Covina, CA; her father of Mill Rift, PA; her mother of Milford, PA; three brothers, Scott of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Robert and Donald of Milford; two sisters, Lisa Abott of Fort Lauderdale, FL and Terri Ann Proffitt of Milford; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services will be held at Stroyan Funeral Home on Thursday, June 22 at 8:00 p.m. with the Reverend Arthur Johnson officiating.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, June 22 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.

EMMA JEAN KOCHER

BEACH LAKE, PA — Emma Jean Kocher, a resident of Beach Lake, a former resident of Barryville and a lifelong area resident, died Saturday, June 17, 2006 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale. She was 80.

The daughter of the late Frank and Leona Housel Nixon, she was born January 16, 1926 in Bloomsbury, NJ.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Charles R. Kocher at home; six daughters, Donna Zoon of Independence, WV, Barbara DeGraw of Branchville, NJ, Debbie Moritz of Beach Lake, Sandy Bosch and her husband Charlie of Highland Lake, NY, Brenda Kocher of Yulan, NY, and Bonnie Watts of Barryville, NY; three sons, Bob Kocher and his wife, Nancy of Sparta, NJ, Glenn Kocher and his wife Pamela of Beach Lake, and Charles Kocher and his wife Pamela of Beaverbrook, NY; and 23 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a son, Dale Kocher and her brother, Alfred Nixon.

Services were held on Wednesday, June 21 at the Rasmussen Funeral Home with the Reverend Nancy Vonderhorst officiating.

Interment will be in the Beach Lake Cemetery.

EDWARD H. STOEHRER

PECKVILLE, PA — Edward H. Stoehrer, a resident of Peckville, died Thursday, June 8, 2006 at the Lackawanna Co. Health Center in Peckville, following an illness.

The son of the late Conrad and Anna (Popp) Stoehrer, he was born in Brooklyn, NY.

Stoehrer was a World War II Army veteran. He worked in construction and maintenance for Grumman Aircraft until his retirement in 1982. Prior to living in Peckville he resided in Hawley and Oceanside, NY.

He is survived by three daughters, Barbara Lendener of Howard Beach, NY, Patricia Lendener of Woodledge Village, Hawley, and Michele Higgins of East Rockaway, LI, NY; a sister, Myrtle Kanaopka of Shohola; six grandchildren, Michael, Tara, Dr. Stacey, Christopher, William II and Brendan; and a great-grandson, Michael.

He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Angela Jean Ricciardi in 1999.
