County lawmakers vote to acceptnew contract with Mohawks

NEW YORK STATEJohn McDonald told the Sullivan County Legislature last week, that they had no right to enter into a casino contract with the chiefs who claim to represent the Mohawk people. McDonald, a lawyer from Rhinebeck, said he was speaking for the Mohawk Nation and that the chiefs negotiating with the county were an illegitimate government that had been forced on the Mohawks by the U.S. government.

109th Infantry returns safe and sound from Iraq
Commanding officer is pleased that We had no casualties

HONESDALE, PA - Captain Peter West, commanding officer of the National Guard Company A, the 109th Infantry, breathed a sign of relief. His troops-every man of them-returned safely from 18 months deployment in Iraq.
The men, returning in two buses from the airport in Avoca, PA, were greeted with wild cheers, yells, kisses and, in some instances, tears from their families on Thursday, June 15 at the Lemnitzer Armory.

Five state senators express opposition to power line
I havent heard on person who is in favor of this thing

NORWICH, NYFive senators expressed open opposition to the power lines proposed by New York Regional Interconnect (NYRI) at a New York State Senate hearing on June 15.
I have never encountered an issue that has met with total opposition, said Senator David Valesky.
Not one single person has told me they support this, said Senator Raymond Meier. The issue, he said, has brought out a sense of community in the region that he had not seen in a long time.
