Last week, this bumblebee was busily extracting nectar from a dandelion flower in the Delaware Water Gap.

While driving to a state park in Warren County, New Jersey on Earth Day weekend, I stopped at an overlook in the Delaware Water Gap, where, for many eons, the river has abraded a passage through Kittatinny Mountain. But what caught my eye at the edge of the parking lot were clumps of dandelions that had penetrated the man-made concrete.

Children learn about planting at Grey Towers

MILFORD, PA—A planting program at Grey Towers National Historic Site will introduce children to some planting basics and the history of the site’s gardens at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 6. Registration deadline is Friday, April 28.

Wanted: fish stories

CATSKILL WATERSHED—The New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is inviting those who fish on New York City water supply lands to submit photos and information about fish they have caught. Photos will be posted on a new section of the DEP website, www.nyc.gov/dep, called “Fish Tales.”
