NYRI sets power line public hearings
River valley opponents set meetings too

NEW YORK STATENew York Regional Interconnect (NYRI), the company that wants to install new high-voltage power lines along the Upper Delaware River valley, has scheduled six public hearings. The first is scheduled for Thursday, April 27, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the New Windsor Town Hall in Orange County. There are no hearings scheduled for Sullivan County.
Troy Bystrom of the Upper Delaware Preservation Coalition (UDPC) said he will attend the meeting, and other members of the group are making arrangements to attend as well. In an email, he said, It may be a crowded town hall.

Calm at Villa Roma awaits insurance company
Assistance to 300 laid-off workers is available

THE BEECHWOODS NYNothings going to happen here until we hear from the insurance company, said Marty Passante, owner of the Villa Roma Hotel and Resort.
Among the debris at the resorts main building, three workers were taking down the large Villa Roma sign that dominates the front of the building. The rest of the charred ruins were silent.

Inside activities saved the day

PIKE & WAYNE COUNTIES, PAMarty Strassinger stood in the cold, misty rain outside the PPL Learning Center, his collar up, his shoulders hunched, waiting by the Audubon Societys activity display to teach children about fishing. No children wanted to stay out in the rain.
Inside the building, naturalist Nathaniel Whitmore tried to get people to go outside and search for medicinal herbs on the centers grounds. He had no takers.
