Envirothon trains and tests teens in environmental savvy

LEDGEDALE, PA — Pike and Wayne County conservation districts will hold the Pike/Wayne Envirothon from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on May 11 at the Lacawac Sanctuary. The Pike/Wayne Envirothon is a one-day educational competition for high school students designed to test their knowledge, skills and problem-solving capabilities regarding our earth’s natural resources. The county team with the highest cumulative score wins the county competition and advances to the Pennsylvania Envirothon scheduled for May 22 and 23, at Penn State Mont Alto located in Franklin County.

Students participating in the Envirothon are trained and tested in their knowledge of environmental and natural resource issues and are asked to demonstrate an understanding of the interrelationship between people and the environment. They receive hands-on instruction from natural resource professionals including aquatic biologists, foresters, soil scientists, wildlife specialists and environmental technicians from county, state and federal agencies as well as other environmental organizations.
