CHARLES E. FAHY

WESTBROOKVILLE, NY — Charles E. Fahy died Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at Bon Secours Community Hospital. He was 71.

The son of the late Edward P. and Maude Cox Fahy, he was born March 19, 1934 in Brooklyn.

Fahy was a retired construction worker, a veteran of the Army and served during the Korean Conflict.

Fahy is survived by a fiancé, Fran Brennan of Sparrowbush; a sister, Anne Crawbuck of Fort Lee; a brother-in-law, Vincent of Sparrowbush; a niece; and two nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, the late Doris Coda Fahy.

Services were held on Saturday, March 11 at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home with the Reverend Jeanne Hendricks officiating.

Interment took place at Pine Hill Cemetery in Sparrowbush.

GILBERT E. HARTY

GREELEY, PA — Gilbert E. Harty, a former resident of Franklin, NJ, died Saturday, March 18, 2006 at the Milford Senior Care Center. He was 69.

The son of the late Benjamin E. and Margaret Crosson Harty, he was born in Ringwood, NJ.

Harty worked as a heavy equipment operator in a quarry and served in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by a son, Gilbert Harty of Waco, Texas; a step-daughter, Sharyl Paul of Hawley; two stepsons, Richard and Cron of Montague, NJ and Robert Cron of Dingman’s Ferry; a fiancé, Julia Coligan of Greeley; four sisters, Marguerite Courter of Ringwood, NJ, Joan Delvalle of Haskell, NJ, Joice Costic of Pompton Plains, NJ, and Gertrude Sisco of Bloomingdale, NJ; two brothers, Benjamin Harty of Lake Ariel and Gary Harty of West Milford, NJ; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Teeter’s East Chapel in Hawley with the Reverend Martin L. Cox Jr. officiating.

STEPHEN D. LONG

CALLICOON, NY — Stephen D. Long, a lifetime area resident, died Sunday, March 26, 2006 at Westchester Medical Center. He was 61.

The son of the late Elmer C. and Nettie Klein Long, he was born April 16, 1944 in Callicoon.

Long was a skilled woodworking craftsman and was employed by Youngsville Custom Kitchens of Middletown. He was a past member of the Upper Delaware Ambulance Corps, past member and secretary of the Callicoon Kiwanis Club, past member of the Board of Directors of the Delaware Valley Youth Center and a past member of the Town of Damascus, PA Planning Board. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a veteran of the 854th Engineer Battalion of the New York Army National Guard.

Long is survived by his wife of 38 years, Barbara A. Theadore Long; children Janice A. Eisenhardt and her husband Scott of Montgomery, Jodi L. Ernest and her husband Ian of Cochecton; grandsons Noah and Tyler Eisenhardt and Connor Ernst; his mother-in-law, Anna Theoadore of Callicoon; a cousin, Richard Long and his wife Jill of Canastota, NY; his brother-in-law, Fred Theadore and his wife Lavadia of Middletown; his sister-in-law, Linda LaBolt and her husband Roy of Hudson, FL; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services were held on Thursday, March 30 at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home with Pastor Peg Van Siclen officiating.

Interment will be in the Hortonville Cemetery in Hortonville.


DORIS REED

GLEN SPEY, NY — Doris Reed, a lifelong area resident, died Sunday, March 26, 2006 at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis. She was 86.

The daughter of the late Charles Sannwald and Julia Budd Sannwald, she was born March 26, 1920 in Middletown.

Reed was a retired secretary for Code Enforcement in the Town of Lumberland. She was a member of The Pond Eddy United Methodist Church; a member and past president of the Ladies Auxiliary, Lumberland Fire Department; and a member of the Lumberland Senior Club.

She is survived by two daughters, Dare Thiele and her husband Pete of Sparta, TN, and Corinth McCooey and her husband Bill of Sparrowbush; seven sons, Lon and his wife Nancy of Oregon, Don and his wife Jean of Glen Spey, Laurence and his wife Karen of Greenville, VA, Jay and his wife Pat of Port Jervis, Mark and his wife Judy of Browns Mills, NJ, Rory and his wife Terry of California, and Chris and his wife Diane of Port Jervis; a stepson, James Koferl and his wife Linda; 28 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Reed; two sons, Ronald and Lory; and two sisters, Jo-Ann Sannwald and Jean Schell.

Services were held on Wednesday, March 29 at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home with the Reverends Richard Hotzler and Nancy Vonderhorst officiating.

Interment was in Glen Spey Cemetery.

DORIS A. RUSSO

LAVA, NY — Doris A. Russo, a longtime area resident, died Wednesday, March 22, 2006 in Fort Lauderdale, FL. She was 79.

The daughter of the late Henry and Anna Schrimpf Amend, she was born November 7, 1926 in Brooklyn.

Russo was a retired Secretary from Hamburg Savings Bank. She was a former member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Brooklyn and attended the Beach Lake United Methodist Church in Beach Lake, PA. She was a member of the Lava Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Joseph at home; two sons, Gregg and his wife Lisa of Georgia and Richard and his wife Marie of Connecticut; a sister, Adele Amend of Narrowsburg; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Beach Lake United Methodist Church in Beach Lake, PA.

DANIEL M. VAIL

WARWICK, NY — Daniel M. Vail died March 21, 2006 in Arden Hill Hospital in Goshen. He was 79.

The son of Albert R. Vail Sr. and Sarah Dolson Vail, he was born November 25, 1926.

Vail was an Army veteran of World War II having served in Okinawa. He was a past employee of Mechanical Rubber Company in Warwick. He was a chaplain and past commander with the Nicholas P. Lesandro American Legion Post # 214 in Warwick.

He is survived by his wife, Dora Ouillette Vail; two sons, Darrell and his wife Kirsten of Warwick and Daniel Vail Jr. of Sparrowbush; and three grandchildren, Sabina, Daniel III and John.

He was predeceased by a brother, Albert R. Vail Jr.

Services were held on Friday, March 24 at the Lazear-Smith and Vander Plaat Memorial Home.
