All the world’s a stage...

Drama abounds in panoply of local productions

By RICHARD A. ROSS

FALLSBURG, NY — March brings so much more than winds, NCAA tournament madness and the advent of spring. The third month of the year also brings drama to the stages of Sullivan County, much of which is timed to celebrate Music in Our Schools Month. The plays also are neatly nestled into the interstice between the end of the winter sports season and the dizzying unfolding of spring track, baseball, softball, golf and track.

As the busy high school theatre season unveils its round of musicals, comedies and serious contemplative drama, one can go from school to school and be treated to an array of entertaining shows that afford the audience a varied menu of great local talent, fine staging, appealing costumes, creative direction and enticing sets. The modest prices make fine theatre accessible to the local populace.

Two of these shows, including Fallsburg’s “Cinderella” and Sullivan West’s “The Good Doctor,” were staged this past weekend. Three others shows premiere this coming weekend, including “The Music Man” at Monticello, Eldred’s “Little Shop of Horrors” and the original dramatic production “The Lamb,” a full-length theatrical production that depicts the last week in the life of Jesus Christ (See page 20. A full-length feature on “The Lamb” will appear in the April 6 edition of The River Reporter, which will also contain follow up articles on “The Music Man” and “Little Shop of Horrors.”)

Go to the "Arts & Leisure" front page and see the links at the bottom of the page, under "Other stories in this issue," for coverage and links to slide shows of each production.
