Sullivan West Winter Sports Awards

A winter’s tale

LAKE HUNTINGTON, NY—March 14 was a night to remember, as Sullivan West parents, coaches, athletes and the community gathered to celebrate the highlights of the recently concluded winter season, the longest of the school’s sports seasons.

The evening afforded coaches a chance to extol the praises of their teams and certain outstanding athletes.

Chapel Field loses in the final

TROY, NY—Chapel Field’s glorious quest for a state title in basketball ended on March 19 with a 72-50 loss to Section 4’s South Kortright. After a magical run, including a stunning last-second shot by Grace Hodges that propelled the Lady Lions past Hammond 39-38 in the semifinals, Chapel Field finally met its match. Despite late rallies, Chapel Field (18-6) could never really make up a big early deficit. They’d get close but then South Kortright pulled away. Chapel Field was Section 9’s only team (girls or boys) to get past their opening- round game.
