BEACH LAKE, PA — An inmate from the Wayne County prison walked away from a work detail on Monday afternoon, March 13. Nineteen-year-old Mark Borjas was a minimum-security inmate who had been assigned to a work detail at the Wayne County Recycling Center. Prison Warden Craig Chalmers released a statement that said Borjas was serving 60 days to 23 months for simple assault. Borjas was reported missing when he was not present at the end of his shift at 3:30 p.m.

Borjas is described as an Hispanic male, about six foot, one inch tall, 160 pounds with brown eyes and black hair. A resident in the Beach Lake area reportedly spotted him walking along Route 652 towards Narrowsburg, NY.

State police from New York and Pennsylvania searched for the escapee near the Delaware River on Monday evening.

Pennsylvania State Trooper John Decker said that Borjas was wearing a green prison jump suit or possibly a white sweat shirt with “ARMY” printed on it.

Decker also said that Borjas may be using a 1997 maroon Chevrolet Blazer, and he may be in the company of a 26-year-old white female named April Wehrmann.
