A modern Velazquez at Mountaindale Art Center

MOUNTAINDALE, NY — This month’s show at the Mountaindale Art Center, located at 58 Main Street, features paintings by Elizabeth Velazquez. The new show is entitled “Soulscapes,” described by the artist as vast spaces filled with line and color.

“I express a sense of equilibrium and tranquility—even when I feel unordered and anxious. Within my compositions, I use gestures, textures and layering. When I paint, I sometimes think of specific memories of places and/or people, or I am inspired by a certain built up emotion, all of which get translated into color and line.”

Many of the large canvases were inspired by Velazquez’s travels to South America. Titicaca Blue, inspired by Lake Titicaca in Bolivia and Peru, is a wonderful example of the sense of flowing energies in each piece.

An artist’s reception will be held on Sunday, March 12, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. The gallery is open the second Sunday of every month, or by appointment, by calling 845/434-5446 or visiting mountaindaleproject.org.
