According to The Village Voice, Tannis Kowalchuk “simply glows” in her performance in NACL’s upcoming theatrical event “The Passion According to G.H.”

Unique theatrical event at NACL

HIGHLAND LAKE, NY — NACL will stage a unique theatrical event, “The Passion According to G.H.,” at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 24 and Saturday, March 25 in its newly renovated theatre at 110 Highland Lake Road.

The small audience of 28 sits inside the performer’s set. The play is a visual and philosophical journey into an explosive moment in a woman’s life— an unexpected encounter with a cockroach plunges G.H. into an existential spiral. The event is adopted from the Brazilian novel by Clarice Lispector, performed by Tannis Kowalchuk and directed by Brad Krumholz.

The Village Voice writes: “Kowalchuk’s beautiful performance makes the evening a delight. She simply glows as a woman whose ordinary life turns on its head when she discovers a cockroach in her home. Kowalchuk has one of those rare qualities only good Beckettian actors have: she manages to wrench meaning and drive spectators to metaphysical flights out of the most quotidian matters.”

“The Passion According to G.H.” was developed in 1998 while the company was in residence at La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club in New York City. The show premiered October 1998 in Cleveland, Ohio, and has since played in New York City, Washington, DC, Toronto, Philadelphia and many other venues.
