Dawgs punch sectional ticket with gutsy win over Bears; both teams brace for postseason frays

GRAHAMSVILLE, NY—Rent that tux, call for the limo and purchase that lovely corsage. After a roller-coaster season that had its ups, downs and loopty loops, Sullivan West will head to the sectional tournament, also known as “the big dance.” The old adage says, “every dog will have his day,” and the Bulldogs couldn’t have chosen a better moment to claim theirs.

Indoor track: state qualifier

Four county schools send kids to states

WEST POINT, NY—At the Section Nine state qualifier, held on February 25, only the top two finishers in each event would move on to compete at the state meet. In addition, any third-place finisher who met the state standard would move on to the New York State Public High Schools Athletic Association (NYSPHAA) championship meet at Barton Hall at Cornell University on March 4.

For those athletes who did not qualify, their winter indoor season is over. A significant number of track athletes opt to continue in spring track, which begins on March 7.

Town of Callicoon Youth Basketball

They’ve got game

JEFFERSONVILLE, NY—When they make a basket, their smiles light up the gym. Rousing cheers from teammates, coaches and parents solidify that moment as something to remember.

It’s a Saturday morning in winter and approximately 150 boys and girls, grades three through six, have donned their team-name-emblazoned t-shirts to engage in a morning of hoopla at the Town of Callicoon Youth Basketball program.
